Lady Grae's Witchcraft Tips for Experienced & New Brooms

I believe that everyone can offer some kind of knowledge in this world. Further into our interview, I asked Lady Grae to go into depth on her advice to witches of all levels and her experiences with deities. Take a peak at what she has to share!

Interviewer: What are four things you think new brooms can benefit from?

Lady Grae:

1.) A journal specifically for notes and entries of your craft. It doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive. You can start off with a simple lined notebook. Writing is a way to manifest creation. If you don’t want to have a physical journal, tablets like iPads can be an upgraded option with note apps.

2.) Get yourself a divination item you feel strongly connected to(ex: tarot, oracle, pendulum, runes, etc.). It can be useful to have as a guide in times you may feel stuck or seeking direction, and also as a general way to deepen and develop your spiritual journey and gifts.

3.) Learn and practice grounding. I find myself benefitting from guided grounding meditations when my mind is going too fast for me to start the process with solely my breath and energy. It is a great way to get in a grounded state to start whatever spell, ritual, or craft you are going to be doing. It will allow you to connect more with yourself and the energies around you. Burning Palo Santo wood in a fire safe dish can heighten the senses of feeling grounded.

4.) Sage for cleansing. There are times where energy feels off in my space that could be from a multitude of reasons. Stress from others in the space or even your own experiences of negative energy. Open the windows and release that stagnant air. I always have sage in stock. I live in a small space currently so I can only burn a couple leaves at a time without it setting off the alarms. There are smoke free options of sage you can find in mists if you are smoke sensitive or unable to burn items in your space.

Interviewer: What is your sage advice to experienced brooms?

Lady Grae:

1.) Step outside of your comfort zone and learn something new for your spiritual growth. This can open up new possibilities and energy connections you may not have thought of using before.

2.) Sage your space at least once a month and open those windows. During chaotic times like we are in now, it is good to not only cleanse your space from any energy or people that may be throwing the balance off, but also being aware of some of that bad energy felt may be something that you have unknowingly brought home or might be your own energy out of balance. Let out stagnant air.

3.) Find some fellow witches. Being a solitary witch has its perks, especially if you lean more toward the introvert side, but I have come to find inspiration and motivation to grow in my path when around others who are wanting to do the same for themselves.

4.) I cannot recommend shadow work enough. This has helped me immensely in my healing process and getting to know oneself on a deeper level. It can be overwhelming, but allow yourself to get comfortable with this and it can open up many doors of growth.

Interviewer: Tell us something that really impacted your witchcraft journey and how it affected you.

Lady Grae: One of the most impactful turning points in my witchcraft journey was when I gave myself permission to step outside the “love and light only” mindset and embrace the full spectrum of who I am — including my anger, my grief, and my need for protection. I used to feel guilty for wanting to stand up for myself energetically.

I thought if I wasn’t always radiating calm or compassion, I was doing something wrong. But eventually, I realized that true healing and magic come from honoring the whole self — not just the socially acceptable parts.

That shift led me into shadow work, magical movement, and the grey path I walk now. I began dancing as ritual, not performance — letting my body move how it needed to, sometimes wild, sometimes soft, and letting that be a form of spell work and release. I started asking the universe to help enforce my boundaries when words weren’t enough. And I let my tarot deck become a tool of self-trust rather than something I needed to master perfectly.

This change gave me my power back. It reminded me that spirituality isn’t about shrinking yourself to be palatable — it’s about reclaiming your full self as sacred.

Deities:

Interviewer: Do you follow any deities?

Lady Grae: There are two specific deities I like to work with: Lilith and Cernunnos. I primarily work with Lilith for her wild and strong feminine energy. When I feel out of balanced and too much in my masculine energy and find myself feeling the need for self-preservation and be over-independent or closed-off, I try to pull myself out with shadow-working with Lilith’s energy.

Interviewer: How did you come to follow this deity?

Lady Grae: I work with Cernunnos' energy for the divine masculine energy and grounding aspects. His energy came to me while in a deep meditative state when opening myself to discovering a spirit guide. I’ve been attracted to stag creatures since I was a child but never thought anything of it until I began the craft. Connecting with that energy during magical meditative sessions for deep grounding and traveling to a place of great importance and a safe place for me to rest has been very beneficial to my practice and mental health.

I work with Lilith’s energy for the divine feminine energy balance. I’ve felt like someone who doesn’t quite fit in no matter what I do. Where I was trying to fit in, was not meant to be a path for me to follow and I would have been an unauthentic version of myself in order to fit in with a crowd I wasn’t meant to be part of.

Interviewer: What has been your experience with this deity?

Lady Grae: Working with Cernunnos' energy has been very helpful in settling my fire down when it is getting out of balance and working with Lilith helps actually kindle that fire when I feel waves bringing me down or when I want to do sensual spell craft. Connecting her energy awakens the snake/kundalini energy that helps remind me of my strength and feminine energy. Her energy also allows me to explore further into the unknown with my own curiosities of the universe and spiritual paths.
