It's summer again and that means it's time for some summer fun! Take a look at our Interview with Tatum for our Front & Center Spotlight with DFAC (Drag For A Cause) to learn more about running a business in drag performance art.
Interviewer: Do you practice witchcraft? If so, what path do you follow and what made you choose that path?
Tatum: I don’t practice witchcraft, however I have a huge respect for those that do and close friends that practice.
Interviewer: What is the nature/purpose of your business?
Tatum: Drag for a Cause- to raise fund for mutual aid in the community through drag performance art.
Interviewer: What is your business's greatest achievement or current goal?
Tatum: To be able to help at least 50-75 LGBTQ2IA Alaskans within the next year with funds for various reasons!
Interviewer: What is the story of this business and how did it come to life?
Tatum: Drag for a cause started with a friend who was passionate about the horrendous genocidal war in n Palestine. We raised funds with a show for a family in Gaza desperately needing aid.
Interviewer: What is your advice to other business owners out there who struggle?
Tatum: Keep going. Keep your passion alive. There will be hard times and various roadblocks. However, if you feel passionately about something, nothing can get in your way!
Interviewer: Getting into your own business is hard! Any advice for the newbies?
Tatum: Take it step by step, and day by day, and don’t let setbacks discourage you. Use it as fuel to create what you are trying to create.
Interviewer: What has been your biggest lesson in your journey as a small business?
Tatum: Things aren’t easy. Doing it all yourself is impossible. Asking for help is a good start. Take it day by day and don’t give up.
Interviewer: What is your favorite product/service/etc. in your business? Why is it your favorite?
Tatum:
We provide mutual aid to the community through drag. Helping people out gives me the best feeling in the world.
Interviewer: It's PRIDE TIME and Summer Solstice! How do you celebrate this time of the year and what does it mean to you?
Tatum:
We are gearing up for our summer show series and so excited for our pride show coming up! We love having all sorts of performers, including those that are disabled or from a marginalized group.
